What we’ve accomplished:
Facilitated a timely meeting with Dr. Robert Marbut Jr. (the federal government’s top official on homelessness) to roll out the federal government’s new strategic plan to end homelessness.
Saw the result of years of advocacy through the release of the Kem C. Gardner Institute report on homeless leadership in the state of Utah.
Applauded the installation of one of our board members, Wayne Niederhauser, to become Utah’s first State Homelessness Coordinator.
Saw the appointment of one of our Executive Board members, Tiffanie Price, to the prestigious Utah Homelessness Council.
Sat down with the Utah U.S. Attorney’s office to strategize possible partnerships to improve public safety in Salt Lake. These meetings with U.S. Attorney John Huber led to the historic “Utah Public Safety Summit” where we were able to get local, state, and federal law enforcement officials to sit down together and build a roadmap forward in order to bring law and order back to our capital city.
Through the “Utah Public Safety Summit,” Utah’s leaders were able to band together and create one of the largest law-enforcement partnerships in the state’s history with Project Safe Neighborhoods Salt Lake, headed up by the US Department of Justice.
Project Safe Neighborhoods Salt Lake saw immediate results and got over 24 violent offenders off the streets within a month.
Relentlessly advocated through radio and print media for SLC to hire more police officers and invest in an increase for SLCPD officer pay.
A week after our advocacy was published, Mayor Mendenhall announced a 30% increase in pay and an initiative to hire 55 new officers.
Elevated resident voices and concerns through consistent pressure on city leadership to address the growing public safety crisis in downtown Salt Lake.
Hosted a monumental press conference at Pioneer Park to raise awareness surrounding rising crime rates in the Rio Grande/Pioneer Park neighborhood along with ideas to reverse that trend.
Pioneer Park Coalition calls out SLC leaders for “lawless” homeless camps.
Pioneer Park Coalition, business leaders claim ‘safety crisis’ in Salt Lake City.
Former U.S. Attorney criticizes handling of homeless camping in SLC.
Sparked a much-needed conversation on Utah’s homeless leadership (or lack thereof).
Partnered with local organizations to bring much-needed PPE equipment to the Salt Lake County jail.
Sponsored a historic gubernatorial debate, setting the bar for years to come.
Diversified our board and continued to make strides ensuring all voices are equally represented on our team and in our city.
Hosted two town hall forums during the Salt Lake County Mayor’s race with Mayor Jenny Wilson and Mayor Trent Staggs.
Conducted over 12 speaker series events, on topics ranging from homelessness to public safety.
Partnered with the Utah Department of Heritage and Arts to create “West Side Stories”, a history collective detailing the amazing history of Salt Lake City’s West Side.
